Gottlieb Biedermann is the middle class everyman at the heart of this dark comedy. When a troupe of 'Firebugs', mysterious arsonists obsessed with their meticulous preparations for disaster, appear in his house, he finds himself incapable of action despite the warnings of a vaudvillian chorus of firemen.
The young lovers, racked with desire and adolescent awkwardness, struggle through a dream like world where they live out their desires as wanton fairies and raging buffoons. A fresh look at Shakespeare's classic dream blended with music and dance for a highly theatrical evening.
In this play, originally performed in Soviet Russia as a companion piece to 'The Dragon', Schwartz returns to the world of fairy tales and satirical humor, telling the story of a scholar who, stumbing into a fairy tale land, loses his shadow, and finds that the world of fairy tales can easily turn into a world of nightmares.
Back by popular demand. Set in a mythical fairy kingdom, 'The Dragon' is an adult fairy tale that answers that oft asked question,"What happens after the Dragon is slain?" |
