1996-1997 Season

Christopher Petit, Artistic Director

Welcome to the home the most thrilling and fantastical theater you will find in Seattle!

Throughout our seasons, Open Circle's resident company unites with local diretors, musicians, visual artists and performers, to bring fresh insight and invention to our creations of highly physical, ensemble-style theater. Join us as we reinvent the theatrical experience.

The Firebugs

Gottlieb Biedermann is the middle class everyman at the heart of this dark comedy. When a troupe of 'Firebugs', mysterious arsonists obsessed with their meticulous preparations for disaster, appear in his house, he finds himself incapable of action despite the warnings of a vaudvillian chorus of firemen.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

The young lovers, racked with desire and adolescent awkwardness, struggle through a dream like world where they live out their desires as wanton fairies and raging buffoons. A fresh look at Shakespeare's classic dream blended with music and dance for a highly theatrical evening.

The Shadow

In this play, originally performed in Soviet Russia as a companion piece to 'The Dragon', Schwartz returns to the world of fairy tales and satirical humor, telling the story of a scholar who, stumbing into a fairy tale land, loses his shadow, and finds that the world of fairy tales can easily turn into a world of nightmares.

The Dragon

Back by popular demand. Set in a mythical fairy kingdom, 'The Dragon' is an adult fairy tale that answers that oft asked question,"What happens after the Dragon is slain?"
